How we’re getting on

Our aim is to reach 500,000 properties passed and ready to be connected by 2025, and so far:
– We’ve passed over 50,000 properties
– We’ve connected 11,600 customers
– We have a net promoter score of +60 (new customers, July 2022)
– We employ over 200 people
We are working as quickly as possible to deliver the fastest, most reliable broadband to communities across the region.

Our Leadership Team
James was appointed as CEO in December 2021, to lead Truespeed through its next phase of expansion. With a wealth of senior telecoms experience, James has a proven track record of leading businesses through significant phases of growth and was pivotal in securing Truespeed’s second recent, £100m tranche of funding.

Nelson joined Truespeed in October 2022 with 20 years of commercial experience in telecoms, media and technology. Previously the Head of Europe for Storytel and Tele2 Commercial Director, Nelson is renowned for delivering successful go-to-market strategies and is focused on driving awareness and uptake of Truespeed’s B2C and B2B services.

Clarke is a former successful listed company CEO with extensive experience across a variety of sectors. He is a founder shareholder of Wansdyke Networking Limited who later merged to Truespeed Communications and currently chairs the TokLon Group, and serves as a NED to a number of companies in the UK.

Melanie joined Truespeed in 2022 with 24 years of experience, working with some of the biggest telco and consumer brands in the world including O2, Microsoft and Truphone. Melanie spearheads the strategic direction of Truespeed’s marketing and sales, as the brand continues to grow its following throughout the South West.

Simon joined Truespeed in 2019 to drive the full fibre infrastructure. Previous experience includes a long tenure at Virgin Media, as well as Head of Build and Commercial for Liberty Global’s Project Lightning. At Truespeed, Simon is focused on expanding the network, building standards, customer growth and customer service.

Bill has over 40 years experience in planning and building UK telecoms networks having held senior positions at BT, Openreach and AFL. Bill joined Truespeed in September 2020 to help drive the expansion of our full-fibre infrastructure, Operational and Network planning, wayleave departments, supply chain procurement and quality standards.

Rebecca is a commercially minded HR professional and CIPD Fellow, with over 20 years experience of leading a wide variety of businesses through periods of change and growth. A true generalist, Rebecca joined us in October 2021 with a desire to make things just work.

Joe founded Truespeed in 2014, with the goal of shifting the ‘slow and sluggish’ perception of broadband, to being ultrafast, for the people of the Southwest. In his spare time Joe has been a key contributor to the Open-Source movement, and has acquired a PhD in Theoretical Physics.

Prior to joining Truespeed in 2020, Henry spent two decades in the telecoms industry as Director of Channel Sales at FluidOne, following 12 years at communications and IT services provider KCOM. Responsible for developing Truespeed’s market offerings, Henry’s considerable experience is intrinsic to Truespeed’s growth, revenue and overarching success.

With over 23 years of industry experience at companies such as Dyson and Ovo Energy, Darran joined Truespeed in 2019 to deliver a first class service to our customers. Darren has previously worked with local and global teams, launching innovative customer centric platforms and developing improvements to enhance customer experience.

Paul began his career over 25 years ago training as a chartered accountant with EY and since held senior finance roles in a wide range of businesses. Having joined Truespeed in 2020, Paul is pivotal in driving our growth strategy and scaling the business to meet its ambitious expansion plans.

Our Board
Prior to joining Aviva Investors, Sean was an Investment Director at Balfour Beatty Investments leading the development and investments in energy, utility and transportation assets. Before this, Sean worked at RBC Capital Markets advising on corporate and project finance transacctions across the oil and gas, energy and utilities sectors.

Andrew is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser. He qualified, and became a partner, at Arthur Andersen before joining Deloitte LLP in 2001. As a corporate tax partner he specialised in private equity and M&A. He retired from Deloitte at the end of 2015 to pursue other personal interests. He currently has one NED position at Truespeed.

Lisa Harrington is a tech executive and has spent over 25 years growing and transforming business across a range of sectors including telecommunications, technology and utilities. Joining British Telecom ("BT") in 2007, Lisa spent 10 years in a range of leadership positions with her final role being Chief Customer Officer BT Group.

Patrick is a former experienced listed business / Private Equity / SME CFO and Company Secretary. His accounting career commenced with GKN having qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant. He joined Truespeed in 2015 to raise funds for the then start up. CFO and Company Secretary from 2015 to 2020, and now part time Company Secretary.
Patrick Mulcahy
Ian is responsible for the overall Asset Management within the Infrastructure Equity business – a portfolio covering Renewable Energy, Social Infrastructure and Telecoms. He holds board positions with Aviva Investors Energy from Waste projects, Fibre To The Property and B2B Fibre telecoms businesses.
Ian Shervell
After qualifying as a barrister, Edmund spent over twenty years in merchant banking. He then worked in the distribution industry as Managing Director of Spandex plc a multi national BtoB distributor of hardware and materials to sign makers, whose sale he negotiated to a US manufacturer for £110 million. He has widespread experience as a non-executive director in a number of quoted and private companies.
